I read essay The Publication of Y our Personal Profile. The claim of this essay is people should not put their private profiles on internet because other people all over the world could scrutinize them, which is harmful to our privacy and social insecurity. The counterargument is facebook and my space may restrict their profile to hide personal information that they do not want to others to see. There are four types of evidences in the essay:
1. Research was exerted in 2007 determines how many workers would give out information about their private lives to someone they did not know.
2. An example a technician can easily access to the personal profiles that restricted by the owners.
3. Episode of eight resident assistants were forced to resign due to their drinking pictures posted on facebook.
4. The citation from author Mohanty and Vohra indicate the insecurity of facebook and my space.
I find this essay persuasive on the point of view it wants to argue. It discusses the controversial issue happening around everybody. The author stands on the position of a normal college student using facebook and uses her personal experience to illustrate the issue understandably. The author uses a lot of faces, research and experiments as striking evidences to justify the thesis. Finally, she did not extinguish the meaning of facebook and my space, but just persuade users to post personal profiles carefully and appropriately in order not to make potential damage to their own lives.
