I read essay The Publication of Y our Personal Profile. The claim of this essay is people should not put their private profiles on internet because other people all over the world could scrutinize them, which is harmful to our privacy and social insecurity. The counterargument is facebook and my space may restrict their profile to hide personal information that they do not want to others to see. There are four types of evidences in the essay:
1. Research was exerted in 2007 determines how many workers would give out information about their private lives to someone they did not know.
2. An example a technician can easily access to the personal profiles that restricted by the owners.
3. Episode of eight resident assistants were forced to resign due to their drinking pictures posted on facebook.
4. The citation from author Mohanty and Vohra indicate the insecurity of facebook and my space.
I find this essay persuasive on the point of view it wants to argue. It discusses the controversial issue happening around everybody. The author stands on the position of a normal college student using facebook and uses her personal experience to illustrate the issue understandably. The author uses a lot of faces, research and experiments as striking evidences to justify the thesis. Finally, she did not extinguish the meaning of facebook and my space, but just persuade users to post personal profiles carefully and appropriately in order not to make potential damage to their own lives.

Assignment 6
I read The Publication of Your Personal Profile. The paraphrase I found is the research about how many workers of the same company would give out information about their private lives to someone they did not know at the fourth paragraph. The author presents this material to illustrate the point view given in the third paragraph-people such as teachers and potential employers can easily gain access to their students' or employees' profiles. Moreover, this example specify the view to the point that the employers can access to the profiles of employees even if it is restricted. The reason the author uses the material in this is because this resource does have real comment of somebody, but just involve a experiment and it can be present clearly through paraphrase.
The quotation I found is that J. Sunden, author of Material of Virtualities notes that Myspace and Facebook are a way in which people can "type [themselves] into being"...It explains the fact people display themselves and scrutinize others by typing something on the website, without communicating face-to-face, which causes more serious consequence of privacy being leaked. The reason why the author use quotation is that the saying, "type into being" is J. Sunden's unique expression about communicating by typing, which is more individual and vivider.
These two materials intervened in essay provide appropriate evidence to certain context and content and make the point of view more arguing and more persuasive.

Assignment 5
Actually, most of the history we encounter is written by the winners, though others recorded by the losers. watching on the Discovery Channel, reading on the books and hearing in the history classes, we built our knowledge of history stories and episodes easily and sometimes tell them to other people who are interested in. However, most people did not notice where they are from. Though it proves unapparent, if you read carefully, there still some trace of who wrote the history.
First of all, the history remains some clues of who described it, regardless it is from winners or losers. For example, the history written by winner usually call the condition one country (winner itself) defeated the former one "triumph", while loser (the latter one) call it "failure". The winners believe they will occupy that position forever and claim that is what they deserve. However, the losers describe that as temporary leaving-behind or even strategical adjustment manipulated by themselves clandestinely and the victory is at the corner.
secondly, we can not deny the fact most of record of history from the winners. It results from the people in winning countries are proud of what they attained and want to exaggerate the influence to stress the opponents. If such accomplishment is rare or hard to gain, it would prove the strongness of the winner. If that accomplishment is common or easy to reach, especially when the losers can never do it, the winners would emphasize the weakness of the losers. Nevertheless, the losers do not possess such vantage of pride to show themselves off. What they can do is just undertake the stigma passively and wait for next turning point-their victories. Then they can writer more than when they are losers.

Assignment 4
In my opinion, the attitude of being with other Chinese is acceptable but not agreeable. When we refer to the theory in sociology, the term of Culture Shock can be completely approved by Liu's experience in the US struggling between connection with Chinese and Americans. The story of resocialization happened on almost every foreigner's life when move to the new countries which has more or less differences with their own countries on not only on language but life style and value even culture. Honestly, I involved in such change, though it did not influence me as serious as Liu, and I can hardly feel it now. I can understand the situation of isolation of culture from the native culture for foreigners even if they live within the latter for long time like Liu. However, they should try to adapt to the culture where they are and hypnotize our original one temporarily, as the saying, "do as Romans do." It is irony that if denying even try to adapt to the new culture, why does Liu come to America? Only for live with the ones he see everyday and really familiar with on how they are like before coming? Or for spreading communism to Americans? If yes, why does not he stay in China. That is the cradle of his dream. Studying oversea is more than education rather the entire internal and external aspects of the new countries from which students' lives will benefit. Although I never object the intimacy of being with the own fellows, melting in the new culture virtually provide the opportunity of harvest the culture distinguish from the previous one, which is the reason why I am in America.

Assignment 3
As to nonverbal language, it is sure there is difference of gestures and eye contact between America and my country, which can be performed as less type but connoting more emotion.
With my experience, people in China use less kinds of gestures as we do not like to express entire emotion we have, perhaps for the sake of independent eastern culture in which implicit express is more popular and acceptable form the on the tradition. For example, you will never know what she means when a girl is staring you kindly, unless she tells or is call for more specific behavior. She is attracted by you; wants to borrow a ruler; or just is greeting to somebody behind you, even none of them. They tend to use same gesture to portray much distinct feeling.
On the other hand, less gestures account for more plentiful emotion some of which can be opposite, which is more clearly represented by the our language which are more supposed to be explained in perspective of connotation than formula.
However, nobody denies that people from different country, even they are far away, share some gestures, and eye contact, and body space which I think is almost same for American and Chinese. We usually don't stand too close to feel unsafe, but we never keep far so that we cannot hear each other as Japanese do.
We use nonverbal language is not because we are lazy but feel more intimate and express more various emotion,

Assignment 2
(I choose question No.3)
Indeed, sometimes I got impression on people, which was different even far away from who they really are. On that first day of class, all students were required to introduce ourselves to everybody who we had never seen but would learn together for three years. There are two people who should be mentioned as really good examples to explain the illusory first impression approved wrong later. A boy who went up to the teaching flat shyly speakinglessly and unconfidently portray a typical figure less likely to socialize with others. However, a girl wearing fashionably speaking fast and confidently with some friendly gestures conveyed a probability that such girl would be more outgoing and involve in the group actively. Although they represented as students with certain personality, the getting along for months disconfirmed the first shot of layout of themselves. The boy actually chatted more often and easygoing with friends, while the girl tended to be quieter than the introduction and what we supposed her to be, although the girl got more opportunities of making friends than the boy, for the overwhelming impression as the article stated out.
Similarly, it is hard to be perfect in others impression for me, even though I pay attention on my behavior and talking so that hold the crucial first few minutes. I asked my American friend gotten to know less than two weeks what information of who I was I transmitted to him, when he saw me first time. He frankly told me that I was look like one with more than 6 trillion brain cells and love nothing except study, for I was always met with books in hands. He vary the bias gradually when he and some others asked me if I went to party with them and I said "yes". I have read some articles including some advices about how to handle the first few minutes to impress a strange and been following, despite some exceptions generating misunderstanding first.

Finishing this article is hard, on the other hand, easy. It is hard for me to emulate the writer’s expressive ability with my reading one, which can be apparently approved with her achievement on the writing and his delicate experience relative to language. Honestly, I have never lost the pursuit of English like what she has attained, though I have realized hard since the first day I learn English. English can be counted as my second language, whereas it is not supposed to be last one. As a non English speaker, indeed, I admire the author born to America, which influences on shaping her structure of language. However, it seems we have partly similar background of Chinese that I spoke in China before coming here and will never use it harder than opening my mouth mostly without movement in brain. My family ,including my parents, speak Chinese as well, but can say nothing more than some basic expression, like ”hello ”and ”sorry” in English. It differs from the writer’s mother speak “English words” using Chinese thought, structure of sentences, even grammar, which I familiar with and can as easily understand the mother’s conversation as she understand her daughter’s book at the end. That is the reason why I comment ease of reading at the start of essay. Actually, there is no “gorge” between the upper generation’s language and my peers’ language, while sometimes gap can be found. Our language tends to be easier and more informal, mixed by some teen expression and catch-up from what my peers’ familiar with. However, we do not splash that language into any formal situation like classes or conversation with upper generations.
Introduce Myself to Everybody
My name is Xu Ziqi, but I prefer to be called Quaint, in order to ease the English speakers, the most people here. I am from Kunming, China, where my root grow and will never change and 18 years old. I come to UD majoring in Business Undeclare now, though I used to wan to learn art which I have take an effort for more than 12 years and am still enjoying on. There is no clearer aim of my career than just obsertvation and diciding prudently until I am ready and capable to showcase my value. Although, many people are not confident about the job market, no one lose bravary of their abuility on work. Same to me. As I mentioned above, I have study art, as well as calligraph which propably can not be accurately describedn to American most of who familiar with Asian culture, and I love them. I am the only one child in my family, which due to the special One-Child policy in China regarless its vantage or flaw. However, it makes me get more concentating love and care from parents, the two I should appreciate and love for my life. It realy nice to meet you guys at UD, my new home, and hope to experience a dazzling time with everybody.

To the start
The start of the voyage in the UD attracts me to extract deeper and explore what amazing treasures are inside as everybody encounters and creates dreams on. As I started to read like an American do in order to finish the assignment or even just preview the text that I would be explained next day, I realized the saying that practice usually is more complex than telling truly. Although I know there will be more challenges waiting for me to probe and strike out, reading and writing, even which has not appeared to obstacle me largely, are absolutely a extraordinary hit for me being an foreigner as a newborn infant for the new scope. holding the same sake of coming the US, I will persist to go on and never stop.
I am looking around and seeing a lot of new friends here who have helped me undeniably on my learning and living, and I believe they will do along. Thank to their kindness and friendliness that I have benefited from, I come to know the new environment which defers from that I have lived in for my previous part of life and remain my root on. I can not merely speak faster than that I even cannot imagine to reach to, but listen to the lecture taught with whole true English sitting in same class with normal American and enjoying same education of quality as well. It represents that my dream in childhood, of using English as native speakers do is coming true. I do not deny that I have devote not little on it for long time, but I still want to appreciate the people whom my step to improve attribute to, including my parents, relatives, and my dear friends, some of which have been mention above.
I am looking for new start of new experience here that gives me new dimension of my new life.
